Multiculturalism

"Multiculturalism"
By: LiliMayPat

"This video is the final result of our English assignement on the Multicultural World; our aim is to open people's minds so that they may accept others' differences. During the production of the video we improved our critical and creative thinking. Just when we made the video could we understand how difficult it was to make others infer, speculate and relate information." (LiliMayPat, 2010)

This video offers a lot of great visuals and plays the song, "Where is the love", by the Black Eyed Peas. I think that it does a great job at identitfying what multiculturalism truly is. "Multiculturalism is the preservation of different cultures or cultural identities within a unified society, as a state or nation." (Dines & Humes, 2003)

I believe that this video opens up my eyes in more than one way and does a great job at displaying media culture through image construction, ideological positions, and narrative strategies. I think this video portrayed to me the struggles between different races, classes gender and social groups. It makes me want to go out show the love by really helping people and situations in the community that I can control.

  1. I really like this video. It reminded me of a time I was at the mall with my friend. We were in Charlotte Russe and this two little girls were staring at each other. One was Black and the other was Hispanic. My friend and I just looked at them and started to giggle to ourselves. Thinking that they would start crying at each other or do something with more hate than love. Until then the little Black girl pulled out a cookie from her bag and gave it to the Hispanic girl. My friend and I were shocked and I wish I was able to take a picture of that moment because it was the most innocent, loving, compassionate thing, I have ever seen. My friend and I looked at each other and had a sad realization. 12-15 years later they won't be that nice to one another. They might but with race such a huge impact in our lives, they might turn the other cheek to each other and make rude comments. Hopefully one day that would change.

  2. Looking at this video I saw exactly what you are talking about. I believe that it portrays the struggles between different races but is not restricted to only that. I believe that what they were trying to do was address every and any issue with this video. I believe that everybody who looks at this video can make different sense out of it and that is what is beautiful about this video.
